As a pioneer in the senior living sector in Indonesia, RUKUN Senior Living also created the Senior Festival concept, first held in Indonesia on May 29, 2015, in Sentul. The event was organized together with elderly community groups, private organizations, and government bodies to mark National Elderly Day (May 29, 2015) and Bogor City's 533rd anniversary, under the theme "Bogor Cares for Its Elderly."
The philosophy behind the Senior Festival is to showcase that elderly citizens (seniors) remain active, productive, and present in society. Its vision is to provide a platform where seniors can showcase their talents, abilities, and spirit as a generation that continues to play an active role in the community.
The inaugural Senior Festival 2015 was themed "A Celebration of Seniors" to reflect this vision, and consisted of several concurrent event segments, including:
- RUKUN Idol, a singing competition exclusively for seniors
- Line Dance Competition, for individuals and groups in the senior age category
- A musical performance by Laila Sari, a well-known senior performer
- An Indonesian traditional fashion competition
- A tumpeng (traditional rice cone) making competition
- Group exercise
- Fun Games
- A health seminar
- Free health check-ups
- A blood donation program
- A culinary market and bazaar with dozens of vendors
Senior Festival 2015 was attended by nearly 1,000 participants from across the greater Jakarta area, and was supported by various parties, including: the Bogor Regency Government, the Sentul City Integrated Health Post (POSBINDU), Babakan Madang Subdistrict, the Elderly Citizens' Association (WULAN), and the Indonesian Senior Living Association (ASLI).
The event aimed to raise public awareness that seniors continue to contribute significantly to society, while giving seniors the opportunity to create, channel their talents and energy, develop their interests, and build meaningful communication and interaction with fellow seniors, their families, and the wider community.
This inaugural Senior Festival 2015 was held at the Town Square & Convention Center at Darmawan Park. Besides the town square and convention center, the Function Hall at Ole! Cottage was also used as the venue for the Line Dance Competition, which drew participants from various regions.
